FAQ Section

How to style shorts?

Pair your shorts with a tucked-in tee or a flowy blouse for a relaxed yet polished look. Add a belt to cinch your waist and define your silhouette.

For cooler days, layer with lightweight cardigans or denim jackets. Wear sunglasses, a hat, or statement jewellery to complete the look.

What style of shorts are most flattering?

High-waisted shorts are a go-to for a flattering look, as they elongate the legs and highlight the waist.

Wide-leg or A-line shorts are ideal for balancing your silhouette, especially if you have curvier hips.

Choose shorts with an elastic waistband or drawstring for a more laid-back fit.

What types of shorts are trending now?

Trending shorts include linen shorts for their breathable, natural texture, high-waisted denim shorts for a vintage vibe, and black tailored shorts for a more polished, structured look.

Depending on your needs, you can choose from these styles to stay cool, embrace a retro feel, or opt for a sleek, put-together appearance.

How do you make shorts look classy?

Choose tailored or structured styles made from high-quality fabrics like linen or cotton. Pair them with a crisp button-down shirt or a chic blouse, and add accessories like a leather belt or a stylish bag.

Opt for a neutral colour or sophisticated prints, and finish the look with sleek sandals or loafers.

What sort of shoes to wear with my shorts?

It all depends on the occasion and style you're going for. Basic canvas shoes or casual sandals are perfect for a laid-back, everyday look.

Ankle boots can add a touch of edge, while flats or mules keep it chic and comfortable.

Feel free to mix and match to express your style.

High vs Mid vs Low Rise Shorts

What is the difference between high-rise, mid-rise, and low-rise shorts?

  • High-rise shorts have a waistband that sits at or above the navel, offering more coverage and creating a flattering, elongated silhouette.
  • Mid-rise shorts sit just below the navel, providing a balance between comfort and style, suitable for most body types.
  • Low-rise shorts sit 2 inches or more below the navel, offering a more casual, laid-back fit that works well for shorter torsos or those seeking a relaxed style.
Women's FAQ

How to choose the right rise for different body types?

When choosing the right rise, understanding your body measurements is key. Measure your waist at its smallest point, your inseam from crotch to ankle, and your front rise from crotch to belly button. These measurements will help you determine whether high-rise, mid-rise, or low-rise shorts will offer the best fit. For example:

  • High-rise shorts are ideal for those with longer torsos or hourglass figures, as they accentuate the waist.
  • Mid-rise shorts suit most body types and offer a classic fit.
  • Low-rise shorts work well for those with shorter torsos or for a more casual style.

Can you wear linen or cotton shorts for active days or riding a bike?

Yes! Linen and cotton shorts are breathable and lightweight, making them great for active days. Linen offers excellent airflow and moisture-wicking properties, keeping you cool and dry. Cotton is soft and comfortable, providing ease of movement, especially if the shorts have a relaxed or stretchy fit.

Which styles are best for casual wear or beach outings?

For casual wear or beach outings, our Mae French Linen Shorts are an excellent choice. Crafted from OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 French Linen, they feature a relaxed, wide-leg fit with a figure-flattering elasticated waistband. Available in 4 colours (white, charcoal, azure and desert sand), these shorts are perfect for everyday wear and beach trips.

What are the benefits of French linen vs. linen blend vs. cotton?

  • French linen is made from high-quality flax grown in France, known for its durability, breathability, and ability to soften with each wash. It’s ideal for hot weather and provides a luxurious, airy feel.
  • Linen blend combines linen with other fibres like cotton or ramie, offering a slightly softer feel with added durability and wrinkle resistance. These are great for everyday wear while still providing breathability.
  • Cotton is soft and versatile, making it suitable for all seasons. It’s more absorbent than linen, so it’s excellent for casual wear and moderate activity, but may not be as cooling in very hot weather.

Which shorts fabric is best for hot weather or specific activities?

Linen is the best fabric for hot weather due to its superior breathability and moisture-wicking properties. It allows air to flow freely, keeping you cool and dry even on the hottest days. For casual activities or lounging, cotton is a good option as it’s soft and comfortable but slightly heavier than linen.

How should I care for French linen or cotton shorts?

You can machine wash French linen shorts up to 60 degrees. Avoid overloading your washing machine as linen absorbs water and may wrinkle easily. To maintain its fresh look, air dry and iron with high heat while the fabric is still slightly damp.

Cotton shorts are best washed on a gentle cycle at no more than 30 degrees to avoid shrinkage. Always air dry to preserve the fabric's integrity and avoid shrinkage, as tumble drying can damage the fibres. Stains can be treated with natural stain removers, and cotton pieces can be ironed easily – but never iron velvet cotton. For velvet, turn the garment inside out before ironing.

Can these fabrics be machine-washed or should they be hand-washed?

French linen and organic cotton can be machine-washed. Use cold to warm water for cotton (no hotter than 30 degrees) and up to 60 degrees for linen. Always choose a gentle cycle to protect the fabric and avoid tumble drying to prevent shrinkage and maintain quality.
